Sony is the latest organization to undertake for appearing to employ works of art generated by artificial intelligence.

Fortunately, this doesn’t affect the game, but rather part of an advent calendar promotion that seems to be aimed mainly at players from Canada, Germany, France and the Netherlands.

So far, we haven’t seen any mention of it on PlayStation’s main social media accounts or website Blog PS.

The advent calendar itself is a fairly basic marketing tool, encouraging you to complete basic surveys and promotional activities to win tickets that you can then spend in a raffle for a chance to win a Ghost of Yotei DualSense or Premium PS Plus subscription.

But every time you enter the sweepstakes, you’ll receive a free avatar every day, which will likely feature an AI-generated graphic.

While it’s becoming increasingly complex to detect AI graphics, we will say that these avatars do indeed have that “look,” although there are no obvious signs like extra fingers or anything like that.

Perhaps the biggest highlight is the employ of Japanese script in the cyberpunk-style scene, which does not reflect the real characters at all.

Overall, it’s not as bad as the recent examples of generative AI we’ve seen in Call of Duty and Fortnite – it’s just a promotional effort, after all.

But Sony has terabytes of nippy concept art from the dozens of franchises it actually owns. Couldn’t you just crop some of them to create more captivating avatars here?
