- Collect card packs to operate in strategic battles
- Discover fully voiced narratives for each character
- Connect with other warriors in Shadowverse Park
Card battles rank at the top of my all-time favorite genres, alongside roguelikes and narrative RPGs, so while I know nothing about the history of the Shadowverse, I don’t need any convincing when it comes to giving Worlds Beyond a try.
The gorgeous graphics, striking animations, and cold character designs are highly appreciated, but honestly, the fact that it’s a CCG is enough to lure me in.
As expected, everything is very similar to Hearthstone, not only in terms of mechanics, but also in terms of battle layout. I really enjoyed Blizzard’s flagship CCG game, so I’d have no problem delving into its Shadowverse counterparts – but what makes this game even more captivating is that there’s a really deep (and fully voiced) narrative to explore, especially since all the characters are so interestingly designed.
It would almost be a crime to say that card battles aren’t the main focus here, because if you want, you can also just wander around Shadowverse Park, a social hub where you can mingle with other players and collect goodies from limited-time events.
You have a cute little avatar that you can customize and a stunning room that you can decorate too, which adds a distinct character to this isekai universe.

Of course, the battles themselves are extremely strategic, which is why I live for these types of matches. In particular, the evolution mechanic allows you to buff your minions – er, followers – with additional stats; in addition, they can attack if deployed in the same turn to give you an advantage over the enemy.
The card packs are still, as expected, essentially gacha-based, but the characters and classes – and their stories – are so captivating that it’s damn difficult to resist the urge to collect them all.
Everything feels incredibly polished, with all the effects perfecting every card and every move, and it’s incredibly satisfying to win – that is, if you manage to draw the deck you want.

Shadowverse: Worlds Beyond is a free download on iOS and Android, and if you’re curious, you can invest in in-app purchases.
