According to GSD sales data in Europe – which includes physical and digital game sales in a number of key countries, including France, Germany and the UK – the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is rocky.
Reports show that the debut week is impressive, 63% lower than Battlefield 6 and at least 50% lower compared to last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
While it was still the best-selling game for the week ending November 16, these will be devastating numbers for Activision, which had previously insinuated that the brand was “too big to fail.”
Of course, we still need numbers from around the world, but we know that on Steam the game reached its peak with significantly fewer concurrent players than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the publisher’s launch statement made no mention of any performance metrics at all.
All eyes will now be on the United States and whether Black Ops 7 performs better there. We know that Battlefield 6 has already been a monster success in America, so it will be compelling to see if Call of Duty can catch up.
Activision’s biggest worry is that it won’t get a chance in 2026 either: GTA 6 will be released on November 19, and even if next year’s Call of Duty game releases earlier than usual, Rockstar’s release will suck plot air from the room.
At this point, we’d expect Black Ops 7 to be marked down significantly during the holiday season, as the publisher will have to try and do something to turn it around.
