Developer Poncle says this is newly announced Vampire creeps it’s more of a spinoff than a sequel, but it looks like Vampire Survivors 2 could be in the works, too.
Fans raised eyebrows when the studio created a hit monster-slaying video game announced Vampire Crawlers as their recent game during today’s Xbox Partner Preview. Although a roguelike deck builder may seem appropriate Vampire survivors sequel at first glance, says Poncle in the recent interview with Xbox Wirethis is not the case.
“It’s basically a spin-off of Vampire Survivors – hopefully the first in a series of spin-offs!” said studio founder and CEO Luca Galante. “The idea is to take some of the main pillars of VS development and apply them to existing genres. I’m talking about accessibility, immediacy, affordability, replayability and shiny things. Lots of shiny things!”
This idea will no doubt appeal to a wide range of Vampire Survivors fans, especially when Poncle teases that it could be more than one spinoff. Unfortunately, the lack of the number 2 next to the title means that Vampire Crawlers is intended to offer something other than the core experience, but fans hoping for a proper sequel may not want to skip Vampire Survivors 2 just yet.
“As for the sequel to Vampire Survivors, we are working on it somethingbut that’s not what we’re talking about yet,” adds Galante.
It’s just one sentence of appreciation, but it’s enough to confirm that Poncle has a lot of ideas for the future when it comes to future Vampire Survivors. Whether this will result in the number 2 next to the name of the original title or whether it will result in something completely different, we will have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, Vampire Crawlers seeks to combine the humor the series is known for with a new gameplay loop. The trailer for the spinoff, which Galante says Poncle has been working on for about four years, reveals a shift to first-person gameplay with a bit of dungeon crawling.
Vampire Survivors 2 may appear in a few years. In the meantime, gamers can look forward to Vampire Crawlers on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S in 2026.
