Despite being leaked approximately 12 hours earlier than expected, the Horizon Steel Frontiers announcement trailer has now surpassed 2.5 million views on the site YouTubethree days after its debut. Meanwhile, this gameplay trailer collected another 217 thousand. views.
We expect some of these views were generated by pre-roll advertising, but it’s still an impressive debut for the NCSOFT project, which will be released primarily on mobile devices, as well as on PC via the South Korean company’s proprietary Purple emulator.
While the comments are mostly negative – largely criticizing the “predatory” monetization mechanisms that haven’t even been announced yet, as well as the lack of a PS5 version – the estimated like/dislike ratio shown using the Google Chrome extension is overall more positive.
Ultimately, we think Sony made a mistake by not also announcing its own Guerrilla multiplayer effort, likely related to the PS5.
Apparently there’s a feeling among the most hardcore PlayStation gamers that they’re being ignored here, but we have to imagine that there’s a method to this madness and that an NCSOFT game will fit well with what the Amsterdam studio is all about Also work on.
Either way, the South Korean developer has expressed interest in bringing Horizon Steel Frontiers to consoles, and considering mobile games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are already hugely popular on the platform, we wouldn’t be surprised if the game gets the green lightweight.
However, the key thing for this project is to clearly reach a previously untapped audience, and judging by the engagement in the trailer, the film has already started in earnest. This will certainly be a project worth your attention.
