Pokémon Legends: ZA receives its first post-launch update, adjusting the balance of Ranked Battles and more

Published:

Today, a novel patch for Pokémon Legends: ZA was released, which introduces changes to Ranked Battles and fixes a number of bugs.

Version 1.0.2 of the newly released Pokémon adventure is now available for download on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, following the game’s launch last month.

While the update doesn’t include any major novel features, a few changes could prove useful as players continue to take part in Ranked Battles in the coming weeks and months to earn exclusive Mega Stone rewards in this mode.

Last week, The Pokemon Company revealed that Mega Stone rewards – which unlock access to Mega Greninja, Mega Delphox, and Mega Chesnaught – will become easier to earn starting with the launch of the second season of Ranked Battles.

Today’s update adjusts the number of points earned based on ranking so that “points are not reduced based on match outcome.” It was also mentioned rather vaguely that “some of the battle rewards you can get for each battle have been added and increased.”

It also includes a number of bug fixes related to Mega Evolutions, side missions, and “some other issues” – see the official patch notes below for details.

Pokémon Legends ZA – Version 1.0.2 (November 6, 2025) Patch Notes:

The following bugs were fixed:

  • If you didn’t open the box screen because the box was full before the first Mega Evolution battle, you definitely won’t be able to catch the Pokemon. Additionally, if you continue with a side mission that allows you to obtain Pokemon in this state, you will not be able to complete it.
  • In some side missions, if the day/night change occurs at the same time as a skill hits a target, it will no longer be possible to hit the target with the skill and the side mission will not be able to progress further.
  • During a Trainer Battle, if the opposing Trainer swaps out a Pokemon and the player Mega Evolves at the same time, the opposing Trainer will not be able to send out the Pokemon and will not be able to continue.
  • Fixed some other issues.

Ranked Battle Balance Adjustments:

  • Adjustment of points earned based on ranking so that points are not reduced depending on the match result.
  • Some of the battle rewards you can receive for each battle have been added and increased.

*The latest update data is required to utilize online features.
*Local communication is not compatible with previous versions. Make sure you and the people you play with have the same version of your update data.

It’s worth noting that today, November 6, Nintendo is expected to reveal more information about the Mega Dimension DLC for Pokémon Legends: ZA via a trailer that will be available at 9am EST / 6am Pacific / 2pm UK time. Perhaps there’s something more to today’s update?

Since its release, Pokémon Legends: ZA has sold nearly 6 million copies in its first week and has been met with an overall toasty reception from fans. The adventure “finally feels like Game Freak has stepped up to the plate in the 3D era of Pokemon, with a fun setting to explore, a well-written story, and a complete overhaul of the battle system that works surprisingly well,” IGN wrote in our Pokémon Legends: ZA review.
