It looks like Sony’s Insomniac studio will be developing Marvel games many still years.
As part of an interview with Game guideMarvel Games CEO Haluk Mentes described the Burbank creator as “dear friends” and suggested his collaboration will continue long after next year’s Marvel’s Wolverine.
When asked about his philosophy of running Marvel Games, he explained:
“We are actively looking for collaborators who want to take on the same role. As is usually the case when we complete a project together, they too become ‘Marvel’. Marvel’s Wolverine with our dear friends at Insomniac Games is perhaps the epitome of this philosophy. We have been working together for over a decade and have developed such a shortcut across multiple Marvel’s Spider-Man games that when it finally came time to bring back Logan in a spectacular and emotional way, it was obvious to everyone on our team that Insomniac was the perfect choice, it was our shared culture and values that brought us together and we are proud to continue working together for many years to come.”
Insomniac has no announced projects beyond Marvel’s Wolverine, although there are rumors of a Marvel’s Venom spin-off, as well as a Marvel’s Spider-Man 3.
The illegally obtained documents that came to delicate in connection with the Insomniac leak also concerned Marvel’s X-Men in the distant future, although it is quite possible that these plans may have already changed.
Either way, it looks like Insomniac will still be involved in making Marvel games for the foreseeable future, and it makes commercial sense – after all, Marvel’s Spider-Man titles are among the best-selling PlayStation games of all time.
