We discuss anniversaries quite often here at Pocket Gamer, although many of them are gacha RPGs celebrating their first year and, increasingly, their half-year anniversary. Of course I’m not knocking it. After all, that usually means lots of free goodies. However, this means that the 10th anniversary of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes stands out a little more. That’s a whole decade.
The exact date that Galaxy of Heroes turns 10 is November 18, and to celebrate, absolutely everything is changing. Throwing away what works in favor of something modern and untested. Of course I’m joking, but apparently this will be the beginning of a modern era.
First, we added the Colosseum, which is said to be huge and inspired by the Petranaka arena from Attack of the Clones. Probably a immense, senior, natural rock amphitheater. You will face bosses including Pirate AT-ST, Jotaz, Tomb Guardian and Dryax.
The update also provides alternate versions of existing characters, including Luke “Stormtrooper”, Chewie and Yoda, and Darth Vader with a Broken Helmet. With mobile games shutting down left and right, including Zynga’s previous attempt to attract a Star Wars audience, it’s impressive that Galaxy of Heroes has survived 10 years. Having a immense IP address is not always a guaranteed path to success. In fact, it might be harder if it doesn’t strike a chord with die-hard fans, so they’re clearly on to something here.
