If you had told me a few months ago that I would stop calling DC’s Dark Legion one of my must-play games to write an article with a plan (to the point where I deleted it from my phone), I would be completely confused. However, the best DC game on my phone stopped being a daily part of my routine and became a dust-covered app icon, and after the last update I finally decided to delete it.
It’s the scariest time of year, and I’m dreading it – not because I play the best horror games (though I will soon), but mainly because my favorite DC game has basically become a shell of its former self. After reaching the maximum level in my DC War Room, Dark Legion had already become a tedious version of itself, but with the latest update it has gotten even worse.
Is this due to broken modern content? P2W antics? A terrible VIP system that only benefits whales and not petite spenders who are reliable repeat players? All this, yes. When I talk about modern content, I’m not talking about game modes and the like, but rather a stamina system that essentially forces you to come back to the game even while you sleep to get the most out of it. The DC Dark Legion tier list has gone from a reliable team ready for battle to a group of sleepy puppies that need naps every few hours.
Imagine you’re playing the best Batman games, and then right before the Caped Crusader takes on the Joker, who’s about to blow up someone’s house or something, and you take a little break. That would be frustrating, right? It’s no different here. Why does Superman have to sleep it off when the world is in danger? This is a really strange design choice, especially since it was added a few months later as a post-launch update and it wasn’t the intended choice from the beginning.
This isn’t the only thing that came with the update. The modern VIP system, which promises rewards for the biggest players, is actually another barrier requiring payment. As you reach a higher VIP level, you’ll earn additional goodies – after paying for a subscription, of course – but this also hides critical gameplay features, from skipping Meta Brawl matches to earning more resources for your headquarters.
Unfortunately, this is just the tip of the iceberg. After months of no major content being added to the game, just more ways to pay for things you already owned, DC Dark Legion is finally complete, at least for me. Personally, I recommend you just invest your time in other options on the best gacha games list or, if you own an Apple device, just play the best Apple Arcade games. It’s worth the price, which unfortunately I can’t say about this game.
