Jagex proves how much the studio values community feedback by allowing you to express your opinion on microtransactions in the MMORPG. Specifically, they’ve provided a community vote where you can say “yes” or “no” – do you want to completely remove Treasure Hunter microtransactions from your fantasy adventure?
Ideally, the vote should exceed 100,000 votes on Jagex to remove the Vault Hunter, which also includes over 200 items such as XP lamps, mannequins, proteans, and portable devices.
This is a really huge deal, especially since it’s all about monetization, and yet the studio prefers to listen to the community to ensure that the RuneScape experience remains enjoyable and sustainable. You can learn more about Jagex’s commitment in the featurette below, but suffice it to say that the company appears to be genuinely interested in making long-term changes that put community first.
As of now, over 77,000 players have voted and counting – the fact that there is a huge counter on the site also shows transparency on the part of the developers, which is a really good first step towards being fair.
What’s also fascinating to me is that a lot of studios are trying to experiment with different ways to monetize games lately, which means Duet Night Abyss is ditching the gacha system with the upcoming Ananta. Are players tired of all these RNG mechanics and are studios trying to see if they can focus more on purely cosmetic items rather than paid gadgets that offer stat bonuses to paying players? And will it actually work? I guess only time will tell.
