The first necessary step to spare Montelli is to get Corbin to cooperate with you, although you will need to have two points in Speech for this to work, or obtain a Writ of Conscription from Hogarth. The order requires Corbin to comply immediately, but without it you will be required to:

  • Let’s assume that an agent named De Vries was responsible for the chaos that took place at Horizon Point.

  • Say “I helped you before. I can help you again, this time with Montelli” (requires two points in Speech). Corbin will reluctantly agree to side with you.

  • The next choice doesn’t matter.

  • Ask Corbin if he’ll get in trouble for sending the message, then tell him you’ll do it your way.

There may be other alternatives depending on how you handled the situation at Horizon Point, but that’s always been the case for us. After agreeing to cooperate with Corbin, go through the relay station until you reach Montella.

The choices you make here and in the scenario below will affect how yours Outer worlds 2 the ending plays out, but only in the slides at the very end of the game. Whether you send Corbin’s message or kill Montelli has no actual effect on the rest of the story. Either way, you’ll still have access to De Vries’ safe and sound room, and you’ll be able to grab Montelli’s weapon, a shock machine gun called the Chainspark Cannon, which sends waves of electricity through nearby enemies.

In one of our early blind games, we scored enough points to either convince Montelli to stand down or save Fairfield and Westport in the ensuing relay station dilemma – but not both. This includes completing all side quests up to that point. If you have been considering your preferred skills, instead of specializing up to this point or specializing in completely different areas, you may have no choice but to resolve the situation through violence.

If you’re more concerned about what to do with the Vox relay station next and have enough skill points to save Montelli or avoid harming others with the station, we recommend killing Montelli and putting those points into the Hack for a less dramatic result.
