Battlefield Studios has provided an outline of the changes coming to Battlefield 6 ahead of the launch of Season 1, along with the highly anticipated Battle Royale mode.

In social media postdeveloper collective has unveiled priority updates to the record-breaking Battlefield 6. BF Studios said its immediate focus is on improving overall performance and combat experience. We’re exploring changes to weapon spread, balance, visibility, aim assist, progression, and more, with further updates coming throughout Season 1.

Changes to the custom search engine have already been published, which are intended to “improve the accuracy of matching players to selected map and mode preferences.” BF Studios says the system still maintains flexibility to ensure reasonable queue times, so players with more specific choices may see slightly longer waits. “We will monitor the performance of your search engine and improve it as necessary,” the developers said.

Elsewhere, BF Studios said it recently released a patch to address an issue where vehicles were sometimes not spawning as expected on certain maps and modes. “Current results have shown that this has significantly reduced the number of events and has begun to improve balance issues on certain map/mode combinations,” BF Studios said. “We are aware of a few outliers that this patch did not address, and we are working on a patch to address these unresolved issues. We have also seen this backend change have had a slightly positive impact on win rates in Breakthrough, but we are working on further rebalancing changes that are expected to have a greater impact and ensure a better state of win rates.”

One of the main topics of conversation among the Battlefield community since the game’s release has been the availability of the Portal server. Earlier this week, BF Studios rolled out XP fixes for Social Experiences after players were using the Portal to collect XP.

Now for the gameplay details. BF Studios said it plans to change the way the player moves “to address areas that previously felt inconsistent, while maintaining the pace of gameplay and retaining the core of the gameplay.” At the same time, it increases crosshair stability by minimizing crosshair movement during certain animations. “These changes are intended to provide smoother and more precise aiming, while maintaining an immersive first-person experience,” the developers explained.

In terms of progress, BF Studios said it continues to monitor the impact of last week’s changes, but is already noticing a “smoother experience.” Tracks XP earned in Escalation and King of the Hill, which doesn’t always work as expected. “We plan to significantly increase payouts to bring them into line with other modes and will continue to monitor as the changes go live,” BF Studios said.

“We’ve heard your feedback on the challenges and their criteria. The team is working on a series of improvements to make the challenges easier to understand and faster to complete,” BF Studios continued. “Given the scale of the challenge, these changes will take place over at least two updates. Here are some examples of what we are currently considering:

  • Class Assignment – Attack 1 – Kill using Adrenaline Injector – 30 to 3
  • Class Assignment – Expert Engineer 3 – Repair Vehicles in Match – 6000 to 1000
  • Weapon Assignment – Deadeye 2 – Get a headshot kill from over 200m with sniper rifles – 150 to 5
  • Additionally, a later game update will reduce the 200m distance

Now let’s move on to visibility. BF Studios is considering adjusting exposure and brightness. “This will lead to improvements in areas where players experienced blinding light when looking outdoors, interiors that were too dark when looking indoors, and lack of visibility around weapon optics when zooming in,” the developers say.

When the Season 1 update goes live on October 28, BF Studios will be making several changes to weapon spread behavior. These changes are intended to ensure that each weapon’s accuracy better reflects its intended performance at range. BF Studios said it also fixed a bug that caused dispersion to not decrease as expected when moving from sprinting to prone.

“We will continue to refine the way weapon accuracy behaves in battle to make your shots more consistent and satisfying across all weapon types,” the developers said. “Our upcoming tuning pass will reduce the overall impact of dispersion on many weapon types while maintaining the core concepts. Burst fire will remain the most effective way to control weapons, and each weapon will still perform best at its intended range. We also identified several bugs that caused weapons to appear less correct than intended:

  • Shooting after sprint: Weapons fired immediately after a close run may maintain a greater spread, reducing accuracy.
  • Movement start: The spread increased faster than expected as players started moving, causing even miniature adjustments to unexpectedly impact accuracy. This was especially noticeable in the case of controllers.

Battlefield Labs is taking a “short break” to allow BF Studios to focus on publishing Season 1 content. This probably isn’t too much of a surprise considering the idea behind Battlefield Labs was to assist shape Battlefield 6 ahead of launch. BF Studios promised that game sessions will return, “and we will continue to create the future of Battlefield 6 together.”

There’s also a Battle Royale mode in the works, which EA has largely kept secret despite a series of leaks. BF Studios announced that it has made changes based on player feedback:

  • Short-range TTK: We’ve adjusted the time to kill at close range for all weapons to reward pristine positioning and tracking while giving players more time to counterattack. We will monitor this as soon as it goes live.
  • Armor Changes: At the start of the game, everyone will now have room for 2 armor plates. All players will show up with 1 plate, so you’ll have a chance to upgrade as soon as you start looting, giving everyone an equal chance to fully upgrade their armor.
  • World Improvements: We fixed annoying world bugs and optimized areas to improve the environment. Thanks to these improvements, we have introduced changes to lighting and improved visibility on the map.
  • Vehicle balance: We’ve adjusted the balance of helicopters and combat vehicles to ensure they remain powerful tools that reflect the core Battlefield DNA, but don’t make them necessary to surviving or winning the delayed game. This includes significant changes to heli countermeasures and ammo consumption.
  • We’ve also worked to ensure smoother performance overall. We identified and resolved a number of performance impact issues that we simply could not have achieved without our players’ involvement in testing.
