Release date for Mouse: PI for rent was officially revealed today during the Galactic Gaming Showcase, just over a year since the game was first announced. The uniquely stylish noir shooter is coming to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X on March 19, 2026.
Mouse: PI for rent is the debut title of independent developer Fumi Games, published by PlaySide Studios, known for games such as Kill Knight and upcoming Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. The developers have hired a huge name to play the main character Jack Pepper, and Troy Baker plays the puzzle-solving mouse. According to the press release, players, set in the seedy town of Mouseburg, “must unravel a complex web of intrigue where corruption, kidnapping and murder are punished.”
From the incredibly detailed, old-school aesthetic to the jazzy soundtrack, there’s a lot that stands out Mouse: PI for rent. It reminds me of this Cuphead in some ways, but darker and grittier. One of the most intriguing features of the game is the way it draws on cartoon inspiration when it comes to Jack Pepper’s weapons.
AND deep dive video from lead producer Maciek Krzemień described in detail what he calls “experimental weapons”. These range from simpler things like a freezer, toxic turpentine that melts enemies, to a special ray that Krzemien describes as “a deadly form of mind control.”
Players will be able to operate such weapons – with a full arsenal of over a dozen options – in 20 different quick combat levels. The press release also announced “unlockable movement capabilities and Metroidvania-inspired level progression,” which is another intriguing twist Mouse: PI for rent thrown into the mix. Players will only have to wait a few more months to experience all the mystery, action and stinking cheese that Mouseburg has to offer.
