Western Digital Black SN8100 SSD has increased capacity by 8TB – the fastest consumer SSD now has even more space to match its speed

Published:

We think anyone who read our review of the Western Digital SN8100 PCIe 5.0 SSD was impressed with what is essentially the fastest consumer SSD ever.

With incredible sequential and random I/O performance, this drive easily earns a spot on our list of the best SSDs. There was only one thing missing: an 8TB version for those who need storage dense. WD has now addressed this performance gap in the form of the SN8100 8 TB variant.

Really attentive readers may have noticed that these numbers are marginally lower than those of the 4TB version, but that’s just a so-called minor detail. Take a look at our tests of the 2TB model below and get ready to pick your jaw up off the floor.

However, the durability index increases the most. All that extra NAND means this drive can now handle quite a whopping 4,800 TBW, which rivals the durability of some server-grade SSDs.

As we wrote in our review, despite the huge capacity, write power consumption is still 7.3W, which is a more than reasonable number considering the performance on a touch and essentially identical to the power consumption of the 2TB version. Western Digital is completely confident in the durability of this drive and provides a 5-year warranty on it.

You can now buy the Western Digital Black SN8100 8TB. It is available without a heatsink for $999.99 or with a heatsink for $1,049.99 from the Sandisk store. If you’re looking for other options, visit our best SSDs page for more recommendations.
