The Resident Evil Zero remake is reportedly set for release in 2028, with an actor from the Guardians of the Galaxy video game on board

Capcom’s upcoming unannounced Resident Evil Zero remake will reportedly debut in 2028 and will be headlined by Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy video game.

Last year, IGN verified a report by noted Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem, who claimed that Capcom would continue to overhaul its classic Resident Evil catalog with modern versions of Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero in development.

Now, MP1 pcs he suggested that the Code Veronica remake is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2027, and Resident Evil Zero a year later. There was also a mention of the Zero remake’s codename – “Project Chamber” – which is also on the list restore actor Jon McLaren from Far Cry 5 and Guardians of the Galaxy (video game).

McLaren’s bio describes Project Chamber as an “upcoming AAA video game” for which he is recording performances at Beyond Capture Studios. The codename would be an obvious nod to Resident Evil Zero’s Rebecca Chambers, while MP1st notes that Capcom previously used Beyond Capture Studios for both Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Resident Evil Zero was originally released in 2002 on GameCube and was a prequel to the classic first installment of the series. It covers the events of Team STARS Bravo in the Arklay Mountains, where the player switches between Chambers and escaped convict Billy Coen. (Presumably this is who McLaren is playing with.)

This modern remake is expected to add modern scenes to the original game’s story – in much the same way Capcom refined its previous Resident Evil remakes. It was reported in Zero that this would include a larger role for the conductor in the infamous train sequence.

It’ll likely be a long time before fans see anything about Capcom’s modern Resident Evil Zero remake, although today’s modern report provides a bit more detail on what to expect – and when.

In the meantime, Capcom is of course busy preparing for next year’s release of Resident Evil Requiem – which is scheduled for release on February 27, 2026, to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary. The game is intended to be something of a send-off for some of the series’ long-running storylines, including the fate of the Umbrella Corporation and Raccoon City. But will Leon S. Kennedy return?
