Marvel Rivals has partnered with Marvel Animation to create the first-ever PvE mode, Marvel Zombies. First season Marvel zombies the animated miniseries just ended on Disney Plus last month and now Rivals joins in on the undead fun just in time for the spooky season.
In the fresh mode, there will be five heroes to choose from: Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff and Punisher. Each of them will have a fresh special ability to support them fight what Danny Koo, executive producer of Marvel Games, calls “endless waves of zombies.” Jeff can charge through hordes, he wields Blades that deflect Moon Blades, Magik can now remain in his Dark Child form indefinitely, the same goes for Thor and his Awakened state.
The gameplay shown in the trailer looks completely different than typical Marvel Rivals match – with enormous, sweeping attacks by heroes on enemy waves, it almost resembles a musou game like Dynasty warriors. In addition to these waves of undead, players will have to face two bosses: the zombie Namor and the Queen of the Dead, the zombie Wanda Maximoff. Both characters come from Marvel zombies miniseries, which will be a nice addition for fans, although Koo cautions that the two are “difficult” opponents to defeat.
There are still many details about the fresh game mode that are unknown, such as how it relates to in-game rewards and potential future events, round duration, and how boss fights are triggered. However, players won’t have to wait long to find out. Marvel Zombies will appear Marvel Rivals on October 23 on PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X. Season 5 of this competitive hero shooter will also soon be available to players; The premiere is scheduled for November 14.
