Pokémon Legends: Mega Starmie ZA of ZA is now a meme thanks to its terrible legs

Published:

If you’ve been anywhere online this week, you’ve probably had a difficult time avoiding Pokémon Legends: ZA leaks – especially Mega Starmie and her strangely humanoid legs.

Warning! Spoilers for Pokémon Legends: A:

With the release of Pokémon Legends: ZA and more players encountering Mega Starmie for themselves, the reaction to this strange-looking novel Mega Evolution is only growing. Most Mega Evolutions add some novel element to the Pokémon’s design, whether it’s an extra set of Mega Dragonite wings or a flower-like Mega Meganium collar.

But in the case of Starmie – basically a starfish with a jewel in the middle – its two legs are now just… a little longer, allowing it to run in a rather strange, bipedal fashion.

Is it because Mega Starmie’s two legs look weirdly stretched out? Is it because he now looks a bit more human-like, although he still lacks any form of head? It’s difficult to say exactly why Mega Starmie looks so weird, although the general consensus among Pokémon fans is that the design is one of the silliest in the series in some time.

Comparisons have been made between Earth-bound villain Starman, DC Comics alien Starro and Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants, and fan art now shows Mega Starmie’s legs clad in fishnet stockings.

There’s also a lot of love for the way Mega Starmie now moves on those two legs, changing his movement from more graceful to something straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon.

“His movements have become more human,” reads the novel Pokédex entry about the creature. “It is unclear whether he is simply trying to communicate or whether he wants to displace humanity.” If he’s trying to communicate, it’s unclear what Mega Starmie might be trying to say. Taj, what was the point of displacing humanity??
