SHRAPNELthe long-awaited Web3-enabled first-person shooter will be released in the first quarter of 2026. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, the game is undergoing significant improvements to its gameplay mechanics and economic model.

Weapon system overview

In a major updateSHRAPNEL has restructured its weapon systems to provide more skill-based shooting. Unpredictable horizontal recoil has been replaced by a pattern that players can learn and master, similar to mechanics found in games like Counter-Strike and Valorant. Additionally, recoil now responds to player actions such as crouching and aiming down sights, improving control and accuracy.

Other weapon upgrades include improved spread and accuracy between hipfire and aiming sight (ADS) firing modes, novel reticle designs, clearer hit markers, and barrel offset fixes relative to the sight. An intuitive function of switching weapons with the mouse wheel has also been introduced.

Improved game performance

To ensure a silky fight, SHRAPNEL improved hit registration and introduced a bullet linking system. This system reuses bullets to stabilize frame rates during intense gunfights, which benefits large-scale battles. Additionally, Audio and visual elements have been improved, including novel match commentary, special callouts such as “A Storm is Coming,” and balanced sound effects for clarity. UI icons and markers now fade when centered to reduce screen clutter, and improvements to map design improve visibility when playing at night.

Introducing Doug – a novice operator

A novel addition to the game is Doug, “The Rookie Operator”, who serves as the default character for novel players. Doug is tasked with guiding newcomers through the initial missions, helping them acclimate to the game mechanics and simplifying the learning process.

Economic and progressive systems

SHRAPNEL is refining its economic model centered around the in-game currency, METAL. The focus is on balancing currency entry and exit to ensure a balanced ecosystem. Players can Earn METAL through missions and achievements and spend it on a variety of items, from gaming gear to NFTs. and also in the upcoming Gacha-like system. Collecting METAL increases player level and rank, unlocking benefits such as higher future rewards and discounts in the ecosystem.
