Mouse: PI For Hire Gameplay trailer showcases hand-drawn visuals ahead of the novel Deep Dive | IGN Fall Fan Festival 2025

Publisher PlaySide and developer Fumi Games showed up at IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025 to show off a behind-the-scenes gameplay trailer for the black-and-white boomer shooter, Mouse: PI for rent.

The minute-long video takes a peek behind the curtain and shows fans how Fumi used hand-drawn graphics to create a stylized FPS that looks like a combination of Cuphead, Doom and old-school Disney cartoons. Featuring an updated look at many of Mouse: PI For Hire’s locations, characters, and weapons that hark back to the ’20s and ’30s series ahead of a yet-to-be-announced 2025 release date on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X | S

“It’s handmade entertainment, full of love, made for real people, by real people,” says the Mouse: PI For Hire team in the trailer.

Today’s preview of IGN’s Fall Fan Fest 2025 is also just a taste of what’s to come. Fans can expect a deeper dive into the development of Mouse: PI For Hire when we premiere an in-depth development demo at the next ID@Xbox presentation on Tuesday, October 28 at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:00 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, that elusive release date will be there as well will finally be showcased as part of the Galaxies Gaming Showcase will arrive on October 23 and will be available to watch via IGN.

Fumi revealed its eye-catching shooter brief trailer in 2023. She was then known simply as “Mouse”, and the full title Mouse: PI For Hire only appeared its re-disclosure in delayed 2024. Since then, Fumi and PlaySide have added the star of The Last of Us and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Troy Baker to be cast as rodent detective Jack Pepper, and players are waiting until next week for the release date of the computer and console.
