FBC Firebreak, a 3v3 cooperative shooter set in the Control universe, burst onto the scene a few months ago, and while it was relatively well received, the Remedy team decided to make sure it reached its full potential with the game’s first major novel update, titled Breakpoint. This massive update comes with a variety of novel improvements, including novel missions, additional weapon modifications, and tons of novel enemies to blast to pieces.
Judging by the update trailer, Breakpoint really looks like it will take the game to the next level, and Firebreak’s specific action looks better than ever before. The most vital changes and additions introduced by the team are:
- New playable crisis – Outbreak: A mission set in the Research Sector, where Firefighters face a perilous mold infestation, novel enemies, and unique challenges.
- Crisis Council – Redesigned structure that replaces the bulletin board, providing curated missions with more energetic and unpredictable gameplay.
- Weapon modifications – 27 weapon mods that add personalization, power and flexibility to any loadout.
- Expanded Arsenal – Three novel ponderous weapons and three novel grenades for increased firepower and tactical depth.
- New threats – Five additional enemies, including Mildew-specific enemies and novel Hissa enemies with variants.
- Economics and Progress Review – Hardware is now fully powered when unlocked, and currencies have been improved to provide a clearer and more rewarding experience.
- Improved deployment – A novel tutorial, orientation videos, and a redesigned early-game flow make it easier for novel players to join the fight.
- Gameplay improvements – More eye-catching upgrades and devices, improved hazardous environment graphics, better survival options, and full access to the Crisis Kit from level one.
Remedy said they intend to continue to expand FBC: Firebreak with further, completely free updates. The next major update, codenamed “Rogue Protocol”, will arrive in overdue November 2025 and will introduce an all-new game mode and the long-awaited cross-platform voice chat to enhance teamwork. This will be followed by a balance and tuning update in December, and the next major update is currently planned for March 2026, which will add novel content to the game, including a novel Crisis Set.
Tef quite liked Firebreak FBC at launch, but felt he still had a ways to go, saying: “I really like FBC: Firebreak, but I wish I liked it more. There are fun ideas of harassing players with haunted sticky notes and rubber ducks, exploring the unique quirks of the levels to deal with collecting safely radioactive bullets and the inherent joy of surviving tense moments with your allies by your side, but those moments of wonder are dissipated by a clunky user interface, a shortened mission structure, and too few levels to complete. This could still turn into something special, but Remedy may have to look in novel directions to deal with it.”
Breakpoint Remedy really seems to address some of these issues, and we hope it brings even more people to Firebreak. As of today, the game is 40% off on Steam, so if you’ve been hesitant to jump in, now is the perfect time to do so.
