Nintendo has finally offered some explanation for its mysterious “Close to You” brief film project, which debuted this week and was later revealed to feature Pikmin.
Typing on X, Nintendo he stated that both films were the first brief films created by Nintendo Pictures, the company’s motion capture and animation studio that had previously worked on a number of video games and CGI films.
Today’s announcement seems to suggest that these videos aren’t intended for anything else as viral marketing – as far as we know, this isn’t our first look at Pikmin 5 – although the door remains open for more brief films in the future.

“We hope you enjoyed the two ‘Close to You’ videos released on October 7 and 8,” Nintendo wrote. “The second video is available on Nintendo Today!, a free app available on your smart device. These are the first short films created by Nintendo Pictures Co., Ltd.
“Nintendo Pictures will continue to explore new creative possibilities through video content.”
Nintendo Pictures is an experienced CGI and motion capture company formerly known as Dynamo Pictures. The studio was formally acquired by Nintendo and changed its name in 2022. One of the company’s earlier projects was Death Stranding 2, which led to the odd situation where Nintendo’s name appeared in the credits of the PlayStation title.
Nintendo Pictures should not be confused with Nintendo Stars, the broader division of the company currently involved in the development of feature films, including the company’s already announced upcoming projects such as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and an untitled live-action Zelda film.
