The October 2025 Control Update has arrived on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S, bringing long-awaited HDR support, unlocked frame rates, and adding previously exclusive mission content for all platforms and players.
The game was announced and first released in March on PC. It took over half a year for Remedy to implement these changes and update the game for console versions. But it might be worth the wait, as the update introduces several key graphical and performance improvements that were built into the game in its original form.
Both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S now have the ability to enable HDR support, adding more vibrancy to the color palette and greater contrast between featherlight and shadowy. Additionally, SDR rendering is now in 10-bit color space, so there should be less color banding.
For smoother gameplay on newfangled displays and TVs, unlocked frame rates and support for VRR and 120Hz outputs have also been added to take full advantage of current-gen consoles. PS5 Pro support enables the exploit of PSSR (optional) and provides better reflection quality, texture resolution filtering and shadows for a more powerful console.
Additionally, all players will now have access to the “Guided Imagery Experience” mission by Dr. Yoshimi Tokui, with voice-over by Hideo Kojima. Previously available only in the Digital Deluxe version on PS4, Control can now be played by anyone by collecting Dr. Tokui’s first collectible tape in the Research Sector Extrasensory Laboratory.
