The answers for today’s Connections game, #854, are…

  • YELLOW: FOREVER ETERNAL, ETERNAL, ETERNAL, PERMANENT
  • GREEN: BETTS BEGINNING, INSTITUTES, INTRODUCTION, PIONEERS
  • BLUE: BIRDS KITE, ROBIN, SWALLOW, FAST
  • PURPLE: HAPPY ____ DAYS, END, RETURN, TRAILS

  • My rating: Easy
  • My result: 1 error

I worked strenuous on this game where even the hardest purple group was quite effortless.

I hope I wasn’t the only nerd who put FOREVER, BEGINS, RETURNS and ETERNAL together thinking the connection was Batman. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case, but the error forced me to think again, more clearly.

SWIFT has appeared several times in bird groups and I always want to joke about being a swift because they really are the most amazing creatures.

Everything about them is extraordinary – like Taylor, they never stop moving, spending their entire lives on the wing, eating, sleeping and mating while flying. Well, that last one isn’t Taylor’s style. As far as we know.

Yesterday’s NYT Connections Answers (Saturday, October 11, Game 853)

  • YELLOW: EQUIPMENT EQUIPMENT, KIT, MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT
  • GREEN: GET DRESSED NO, WEAR, SPORT, WEAR
  • BLUE: STREET Suffixes AVENUE, YARD, LINE, ROAD
  • PURPLE: Nicknames that have different meanings BILL, BOB, PAT, VOL

What are NYT calls?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. The task is to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is effortless, yellow is slightly more complex, blue is often quite complex, and purple is usually very complex.

The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.

It’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, though, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you into tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can undiscovered answers.

You can play it for free via Enjoy the gaming site on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
