We all remember where we were when Resident Evil: The Village came out and became an instant internet sensation, but do you remember how long ago that was? Well, it’s understandable if you don’t, because it seems like it was eons ago. The village came to us on May 7, 2021 – about four and a half years ago. This surprised me and made me curious how exactly how many days passed between the premiere of Resi 8 and its sequel, Resident Evil: Requiemwhich will be released on February 27, 2026.
Answer? 1,757 days or 251 weeks if you prefer to think of it that way. To put this number into some perspective, World War I lasted 1,600 days, Julius Caesar officially ruled Rome for a paltry 730 days – and the most essential indicator: the wait time between Nintendo DSi and 3DS was only 721 days. I mean, if Nintendo can release such enormous leaps on consoles in such a miniature amount of time, what are we, the creators of Resident Evil, doing?
Fun comparisons aside, we realize that good things take time and we’d rather see a stunning and polished Resi 9 than anything that feels rushed because they’re trying to beat an arbitrary time limit.
We got the good news in September’s Nintendo Direct that Village, Requiem, and its predecessor Biohazard are coming to Nintendo Switch 2, so you have plenty of opportunity to catch up on the series if you haven’t played it before. Biohazard and Village are excellent titles, especially the latter given its up-to-date take on the series and iconic characters.
After a slightly more action-driven style of horror, I can’t wait to see what Requiem has in store for us. The ninth game in the series will follow in the footsteps of Resident Village: Gold Edition, allowing you to switch between first and third person at will, which could indicate a similar genre or setting. It’s likely that the creators are keen to create more of the viral moments we’ve seen with Lady Dimitrescu, so perhaps other iconic villains will appear in Requiem.
Even if no equivalent icon appears, you can be sure that Grace, the daughter of RE Outbreak’s Alyssa Ashcroft’s character, is in action as an FBI agent investigating the disease in the hotel where her mother’s murder took place eight years earlier.
The story seems to focus on Grace, who uses flashbacks to her mother’s death to investigate the case. Weird. Additionally, the trailer gives us a glimpse of several up-to-date enemies, including a spooky white lady with the appearance of a witch, an extremely high troll with ugly feet, and just the right amount of creepy hands, likely belonging to the aforementioned nightmares.
We may get another trailer, so stay tuned. If you need facilitate deciphering the order of the games, head over to our list of all the Resident Evil games in order, or replay the best Resident Evil games to refresh your history.
