Battlefield 6 gets its gigantic launch on Steam with over 740,000 concurrent players just hours after launch

Published:

Battlefield 6 enjoyed a huge launch on Steam, with over 740,000 concurrent players.

At the time of publishing this article, there were 747,440 concurrent players playing Battlefield 6 on Steam. That’s enough for EA’s recent first-person shooter to become the second most-played game on Valve’s platform, behind only Counter-Strike 2. Battlefield 6 is already the 14th most-played game ever on Steam, with Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 in its sights.

For comparison, the maximum number of concurrent players in the Battlefield 6 open beta was 521,079. No other Battlefield game has ever achieved such results on Steam before. Indeed, Battlefield 6 already has more players playing than EA’s previous record-holder on Steam, the free-to-play game Apex Legends, which makes Battlefield 6’s $70 achievement even more impressive.

And in case you’re wondering, the Call of Duty app, which covers all Call of Duty games, boasts the highest number of concurrent players on Steam at 491,670, which means Battlefield 6 is on track to double the record set by its rival in FPS games.

The actual number of concurrent players will be much higher if PlayStation and Xbox players are taken into account, but neither Sony nor Microsoft has made these numbers public. (This, of course, also applies to Call of Duty, which is historically stronger on consoles than on PC.) Perhaps inevitably, Battlefield 6 players will find themselves queuing for servers, although logging in doesn’t take very long now. Of course, this is just the beginning, but it looks like Battlefield 6 will be a hit for EA.

Battlefield 6 is already played by a huge number of players, but Call of Duty maps are also available, and one die-hard fan is recreating his favorite Modern Warfare delivery on Portal.
