Soulslike Code Vein 2 on PS5 couldn’t be more anime if it tried

Published:

Code Vein 2, the upcoming Soulslike anime from Bandai Namco, has received a lengthy four-minute story trailer.

The publisher actually showed this film in a theater behind closed doors in Game show in Tokyobut now it has been made available to the public. When we first watched it, we didn’t understand it because it was in Japanese, but seeing it in English didn’t really assist.

The game definitely has a stout atmosphere and looks to be quite a step forward in terms of production values over its already very successful predecessor.

Here’s what the publisher has to say about it:

“The trailer shows a deep dive into the world of Code Vein 2, where players take on the role of Revenant Hunter to prevent Rebirth, a cataclysm that threatens the fate of the world. Accompanied by Lou MagMell, a Revenant girl who brings the hero to life with her own heart and wields the power of time travel, Revenant Hunter embarks on a mission to rewrite history and saving the world. The trailer also highlights the robust bond between the Revenants, introduces modern characters and voice performances, and features a powerful original soundtrack composed by Go Shiina, revealing a dramatic story shaped by fate, sacrifice and choice.”

Bandai Namco says the game will have a huge focus on the story, where “players and characters are bound by blood, fate and destiny, and takes place in a future where the last remnants of humanity and the Revenants fight a world on the brink of collapse.”

Despite this ponderous emphasis on story, you’ll be able to create your own character “with a wide range of settings for body type, hairstyle, facial expression, accessories, makeup, and more.”

We haven’t had a chance to check it out in person yet, but its release date is scheduled for January 30 and we have a sneaking suspicion that it will be quietly very popular.
