I am a loser of a cleverly designed object. I am also the loser of a good budget game microphone, and Hyperx Solocast 2 manages to be both things at the same time. On 60 USD/£ 50It is valued in the same territory as some of the low-cost and nasty models that you will find in the offers of many main retail sellers, but pulling it out of the box reveals a surprisingly brilliant diminutive microphone for gaming.
At the beginning he has such a shapely integrated stand for desktop computers, it is a bit amazing for me that I haven’t seen such a thing. Basically, Solocast 2 occurs as one cylindrical unit with two fastenings of boom screws integrated with the bottom (⅜-inch and ⅝ inch, if you wonder), thanks to which it seems to be a standard, standardless, Microphone project. However, break it like a shotgun castle and opens to reveal the hinged hinged base about one -fifth of the road up the frame.
It is also a solid hinge, which means that it is weighed enough in your movement to stay at an angle where you set it in a stationary position, with a huge mass at the bottom to prevent accidental tilt. Combine it with nice plastics, ventilated grille and completely black aesthetics, and Solocast 2 is a really handsome device for placing on the desk.
Ports and controls are as elementary as possible. There is a capacitive touch button that covers the entire round mountain of the microphone itself, which means even the most clumsy among us (including me here) will not miss it. On the back there is a USB Type-C port, and the front is a good LED indicator that shines subtly red with a microphone and turns off after withdrawal.

It is a relatively hidden deviceIN Then and I appreciate it. I have enough RGB illuminated doohickeys on the desk to bring a diminutive plane for landing, so testing something that is trying to integrate with my configuration without attracting unnecessary attention, is a welcome relief.
Although I admit, assigning red lithe to the “ON” configuration seems to be more than a little contradictory and a terrible way to the boss to find out what you really think with a noiseless error.
Return to control. It’s also … Oh, wait, I finished. Yes, everything else is supported by HyperX Ngenuity software, for which you currently need to install beta, because it is a newly released product that is not recognized by the standard version. Hence, you can adjust the reinforcement, configure the corrector settings and add noise reduction, compression and limitation with elementary switches-high passage, low passage and filters of increasing the presence with similar ON/OFF controls.
On the one hand, reducing all these options to elementary switches, mostly (except EQ and strengthening, in which you can surprisely granular) is a win for the usual simplicity of apply. On the other hand, I would like Some The form of adjustment of the slider to reduce noise and at least a compressor, because both can be blunt instruments after implementing a massive hand.
In this respect, the default configurations are actually quite useful. As you hear in the clip below, with a reduction in the noise of artificial intelligence, compression and confined limitation, what you finish is a fairly natural vocal tone, with a good dose of wealth without warning horrors induced by noise. After saying, Solocast 2 is relatively still from the computer position, unless you boost the profit (as I did), which causes some background hiss.
You can also hear my partner fighting in the background (in a completely different house room) with closed doors between us. I would be grateful to hit the excision cancellation or two to compensate, but unfortunately this is only the Take-IT-I-Leave-IT option.
Where Solocast 2 can shine, it is close. The built -in pop filter is extremely effective, which means that you can absolutely mount one in a close position to get a more studio tone and less unwanted noise with withdrawn reinforcement. The capsule here has been tuned well, and everything that surrounds it is solid enough to easily reject most of the forms of interference.
Besides, there is … well, not much to talk. This seems very well made, it is a handsome addition to your desk, and the software can walk on the line between being effortless enough for a daily user, with enough control in the form of switches and EQ settings to maintain sound corrections.
Buy if …
✅ You like a clever design: Solocast 2 is a very sophisticated, well -thought -out microphone for games and easily takes on most of the configurations.
✅ Michamon Basics is, well, too basic: For 25 USD, the default USB Amazon Basics microphone is complex to quarrel – but if you want (some) to cancel noise and greater adjustment at a reasonable price, Solocast 2 is likely where you want to be.
Do not buy if:
❌ You plan to put it at a long distance: While you can raise the profit to capture the vocals with reliable, it means that the cancellation of noise is less effective – and thanks to the lack of adjustment option unwanted noise will be inevitable.
If I were fussy (and I am), I would be grateful if some EQ settings were installed by default, but adding the “Add the corrector settings” option in the drop -down menu suggests that some may appear when the software comes out of the beta stage. At the moment, however, everything is very feasible and there is no confusion in the project that attracts me to both the software and the microphone itself.
However, I think that it has a diminutive but significant problem in the form of main competition – USD 25 Amazon Basics USB microphone. While Solocast 2 has smarter designs and adjustable sound settings (as opposed to the basics that have exactly zero violin software), it is complex to argue with Amazon MIC for less than half the price.
Applying clips next to each other, I would say that the Hyperx unit sounds luxurious in a stationary position, probably because of the compression of software and higher quality capsules. However, the frail noise that Solocast 2 is canceled, and although the basic unit is not at all, it is much cheaper – which really matters at this end of the market.
Despite this, Solocast 2 is a good budget microphone, and if it would not be for the usual affordability of MIC MIC, he would probably be a candidate for our best budget microphone for games according to the virtue of its wider function as a whole. Sounds good, it is cleverly designed and is well priced. It is a pity, however, that he was amazing through the amazingly cordial pipsqueak?
