The Division 2 may not introduce seasonal characters

Although Division 2 is not as popular as, say, Destiny 2still enjoys a lot of popularity. Recently, Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment announced that Division 2 would basically accept Diablo 4 seasonal model, moving to time-limited seasonal characters for progression. Not a popular move.

Since the announcement, Division 2 players were understandably upset that they would no longer be able to guide their Agents through seasonal content. Instead, they would have to rely on seasonal characters to progress, while older Agents would be left to languish in elderly, obsolete content. Thankfully, Massive Entertainment seems to have taken player feedback to heart, to some extent, and the studio has now announced that it intends to “re-evaluate Seasons 2.0 with a special focus on Seasonal Characters with the goal of progressing without them.”

The Division 2 Developers Consider Limited-Time Seasonal Heroes

That’s great and all, of course, but I think it’s worth taking Massive Entertainment’s specific wording into account. The studio’s announcement didn’t explicitly state that it would get rid of seasonal characters or make them optional: the feature is simply being re-evaluated, and it’s very possible that it won’t ultimately go anywhere.

It’s also a shame because the recent Seasons 2.0 feels really exhilarating, even if the game lacks fresh content. Division 2 at this point, and the recent approach to seasonal characters took the wind out of his sails. “This change will not impact previously announced plans for Year 6,” the announcement says, “but will require us to evaluate the changes necessary for the new seasonal experience that will be integrated into Year 6 Season 2 this fall.”

More information should come as the developer figures out what is and isn’t in the recent model, so fans should stay tuned. Masssive promised that this information will be released in a live stream AND then tested on the public test server, which is of course good news.

At the end it’s tough to say what will happen next Division 2The game was slowly going on in the background, persistently way longer than some of its most renowned competitors, but Ubisoft clearly doesn’t know what to do with it next. A real sequel isn’t even in the cards yet, and Brooklyn addition is still shrouded in mystery. Time will tell, I suppose.
