What is Connections?

Connections is a word-building game published daily by the NYT, host of the ever-popular Wordle puzzle. Created each day by crossword puzzle creator Wyna Liu, Connections presents you with a selection of 16 seemingly different words, and you have to group them into four sets of four, where each group of four words has a common theme.

For example, the words “Hook”, “Nana”, “Peter”, and “Wendy” are all characters from Peter Pan. Or, to give another example, “Action”, “Ballpark”, “Go”, and “Stick” are all words that usually appear right before the word “Figure”.

Your task is to guess what motives connect the different words – but be careful, because there are often deliberately placed misleading clues to confuse you! To win the game, you must find all four connections without making 4 mistakes. On the fourth mistake, the game ends and the answer is revealed automatically.

Each of the four groups in the Connections puzzle is also assigned a different color each day, representing how uncomplicated or challenging it is to find the Connection. These colors are: Yellow (easiest), Green (uncomplicated), Blue (medium), and Purple (hardest).
