Valve’s Storefront has a reputation of its exceptionally acceptable publication requirements, which is another way to say that the computer platform certainly has many adult games. But it can change in the case of potential games with sexual content on Steam based on the convergence of recent incidents covering rules, payment processors and game removal.
As emphasized by SteamdbThe account, which the chronicle of all things, the process of implementing Steam for game developers has been adapted to the up-to-date type of forbidden content for the platform – but it is misleading. Content that violates the “rules and standards specified by Steam Payment processors and
Related card networks and banks or internet network suppliers: “They are not allowed now, and adult games that may violate this regulation are special attention.
The apparent problem is twice. First of all, Valve does not give real details to game creators, and unclear rules can be hard to follow. The second problem is that this means that the valve abdicates its role in deciding what is restricted or is not restricted on the platform to a completely different unit with a specific set of moral judgments.
This amendment to the implementation process coincides with another event, in which a list of about 22 adult games was downloaded from the platform. It is possible that many of these titles did not meet the quality standards based on perceptible thumbnails. But most of the affected titles have one common feature: they include incest.
Valve did not immediately answer at the request for comment or explain the changes, but historically payment processors, such as Visa, Mastercard and PayPal, proved to be sensitive when it comes to sexual content. Platforms that do such things, such as selling erotic stories or sexual services or otherwise host adult media, had problems with payment processors that consider this type of content to be indecent. In some cases, payment processors claim that their guidelines are an attempt to prevent illegal materials, such as content that can present inconsistent activities. Payment processors also make room for educational sexual content.
But in practice, payment processors suppress things that are sexual, periodic, regardless of context or legality. This is a continuous tension that affected almost every corner of the Internet, and most entities are consistent, because it is quite hard to run a company where money cannot exchange hands. Another complicating factor is the fact that such content -based rules are more enforced in adult games, while huge budget titles that present sex do not have similar pressure.
In this case, the affected games can present something that can be reserved for most recipients – but without additional clarity it will be hard to assess whether the rule will be enforced fairly.
