When Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The soulless army released on PlayStation 2 in March 2006, Persona 3 was only four months after the debut in Japan. This is the latter, regardless of the classic ATlus system “Now the iconic social connection system, thus sets the fate of the studio as one of the most beloved creators of the 21st century RPG. But Raidou? Most people forgot about it if they heard about it.

And yet here we are with a remaster and a high effect: the fight has been renovated and each dialogue line expressed. It belongs to the Devil Summoner of Shin Megami Tersei variety, which stand out with their detective inclines (the latest ones were Soul Hackers 2). He did not receive particularly glowing reviews during the premiere: it was Thin. But in retrospect it is a bit interesting. The Tokyo scenario from the beginning of the 20th century is not only unique for the series that loves to spin in the present and close position, but also contains one of Atlus’s only Dalliances with real time.

Raidou Kuzunoha is a teenage detective working at the Narumi detective agency, who is particularly interested in supernatural and occultisms. It is suitable for work, because it is also secretly a devil’s call, working for an organization devoted to the protection of Tokyo against the anger of supernatural forces. A seemingly routine search for saving the daughter of a local magnate ultimately flourishes into the usual absurdly meandering anime tariff, touching superweap, time manipulation and, of course, the Russian mystical Grigori Rasputin.

Raidou is another voiceless and deprived of a teenage hero, although taking into account his situation – Raidou is an investigator, not an unfortunate student – some strangeness of other SMT games has been polished. A sense of juvenile people thrown into a malicious alternative world Exactly Hidden under his own does not hit so challenging when the hero reports to service as a ghost detective every morning.

Raidou devils can recall anyone who played Shin Megami Tersei and are used here in a amusing way. Each of them has several different applications outside the fight, which bleeds in some Raidou Remastered traps. For example, Jack Frost can freeze water to create recent paths while Azumi can fly. Neko Shogun can employ force to move immense objects, and Lilim can read the minds of people. These powers can only be used in the right context, and each time they are required in the script of the puzzle, it is usually extremely obvious, even when the Raidou cat companion does not relax the solution.

On the other hand, the “puzzles” of the overdue game are surprisingly blunt, to the extent that I had the form of Whiplash Gamer: Should I just sit down and wait until I explain what to do? Or I had, uh, Think about it?

These elements exist because Raidou is seemingly a detective, but they resemble puzzles less, and more like a series of duties concluded by a particularly patronizing boss. The story concerns Raidou, but AND Do not test: I just move our hero and click things. This is a lost opportunity, both in 2006 and now, to feel the more investigating style of playing in the game about being a researcher. This sense of wasted potential extends to a mission project, which is generally involved in the transition between the characters to obtain information, and sometimes immersed in the obscure kingdom – a grim and mysterious parallel world full of demons – to collect a great study of the current episode in the embryo.

Fortunately, hunting for fighting and demons make things intriguing and the former have been completely converted. The stagnant angle of the original camera is now free roaming in battle, and Raidou is much more agile on the legs, with a long tilted and double jump. He can now recall two demons, not one, to facilitate next to his own weapon in a brief circuit and shooting.

Compared to the syrup of the original, it is very quick and liquid, mixing a slight tactical complexity with a hack focused on dexterity. Raidou can specialize along magical or raw damage paths (I built a mixture between both), and also following the modernization of trees to swords, spears and axles.

The fight is as close to the SMT turning system as it can be in real time: using the appropriate elementary attack on the enemy will weaken or stun, the better to strengthen the sword attacks, while the employ of the wrong unrehearsed attack will usually strengthen the enemy. Known SMT puzzles inevitably arise: what if one enemy needs a fire attack, but you only have an AOE fire attack, and another enemy in the field is strengthened by fire? Then it’s time to immerse yourself in the menu, refine the demon charging and continue. What happens if the enemy, which is weakened with tension, delights my healers to heal them? What if my healer is the only demon I have with the Volt attack? Damn: It’s time to find another Volt demon.

Collecting demons and trying them in the battle is as amusing as always, even if everyone feels more adaptable, and therefore less unique than in other contemporary SMT games. Jack Frost is an ice creation, but if I have inherited a Volt or Fire attack, it will continue to weaken the enemy if they are susceptible to these elements.

I found that I used the early demons of the game in a 30-hour history, mainly because the strength of their elementary attacks did not have as long as Raidou himself was able to make high damage (and also because Neko Shogun is my favorite). Similarly, I had about three -quarters of the game before I really had to think about what demons I wanted to keep and which I wanted to sacrifice through the Fusion demon: in other SMT games, including persona, demons that can strengthen and debuffed, which leads to regular stops to connect in the direction of stronger and better equipped. This is not here, although I played Normal; Things can become more hard with higher difficulties.

All this may sound not hard, but the truth is that I liked Raidou Remastered and I think that everyone who has monster collecting will also be SMT game -oriented games. According to all Raidou reports, there were 7 out of 10 jRPG in 2006, and with the complete renovation of his combat system – and mercifully removing random meetings – Atlus assured that there is now 7 out of 10 jRPGs. I am not sure why they decided to make it up instead of any other SMT games stuck on PS2, but it is definitely worth playing, especially if you are curious, what can happen if (pulp) persona 6 follows the path of fighting with the end of the final fantasy 16 and ditches.
