For two weeks I have replaced the OLED Nintendo Switch 2 switch – here are the biggest improvements I noticed in time with a modern console

Published:

Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially with us for over two weeks, and those who survived madness in advance and managed to get them to their homes had a lot of time for opinions about the latest console of the company.

I had a console for over two weeks, and if you read my full Nintendo Switch 2 review, you’ll know that I really like this system. Sure, for better or worse, there is no exactly innovation sparks that made the previous Nintendo equipment so fascinating. But strictly as an iteration of the switch, switch 2 is an astronomical improvement I was counting on.

From better image quality and game performance to faster charging time and back compatibility, Switch 2 offers a significant step up, positioning it as one of the best games for the current generation. My Nintendo Switch OLED is still a great system and saved my bacon during many long journeys, but now it is extremely challenging for me to come back.

If you just want Cliffsnotes in what makes Switch 2 so good, you’re in the right place. After more than two weeks of testing the console each day I collected a list of my biggest arrangements of Switch 2 when it comes to general improvements, as well as some of my favorite modern functions.

The 1080p display is great

The biggest improvement made by Switch 2 is a jump to the 1080p display on the conveyor. This is not an OLED panel; Instead, Nintendo decided on a cheaper LCD screen. But his support for HDR10 goes a long way to alleviate it with wealthy contrast and right shadows.

Now the resolution hit is one thing, but Nintendo has packed its panel in the future technology. HDR10 is fantastic, but the display also has a variable refresh rate support (VRR), helping games that work on 40 frames per second (FPS) or above, maintain velvety performance – in fact up to 120 Hz – for much more stable travel experience.

You do not quite get the same hardware cutlets in portable mode, which after inserting the console into its dock in the television game, so add -ons such as VRR really aid display display in performance.

It is also a generally larger panel. At 7.9 inches it is a noticeable escalate in size compared to the OLED switch (7 inches) and the original switch (6.2 inch). Both also had a 720p output – another area where switch 2 provides a huge improvement compared to the original Switch family.

Reverse compatibility is unique

I once thought that Xbox is the winner of the backward battle in this generation. In the Xbox Series X consoles and Series Series you can play the full Xbox One library, as well as a robust number of Xbox 360 and OG Xbox titles – even physical disks!

Having said, Switch 2 certainly gives Microsoft for his money in this department. Sure, because of the cassette -based game cards, it will not work in Wii or Wii U (and so it is not beyond updating the online library switch), but you can expect almost complete compatibility with the original switch catalog.

Of course, this is nothing modern in itself. After all, PlayStation 4 can be played on PlayStation 5. In this way, Nintendo approached the backward compatibility, which should be talked about. Currently, games with dedicated updates were the most impressive additions. They include Pokémon Scarlet & Violet AND Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury – Both received updates that improve image and crash quality.

Some of the best Nintendo Switch games also received HDR support, including Super Mario Odyssey AND The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of WisdomIN AND Awakening the link. We hope that Nintendo will continue to exploit similar updates to the highly rated original Switch games, because the works carried out so far have made these titles feel better than ever before.

In addition, I must mention that some Switch games exploit the unnecessary crash cage. I wrote the whole story Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition’s improvements. They were not officially mentioned by Nintendo, but the strength developed by Omega Warriors dynasty Spin-off now operates in tidy 60 frames per second on switch 2 and in 1080p mode in portable mode.

It is a dream to play now, overcoming the initial technical problems through the pure power of Switch 2 equipment.

Charging times all over the board are much faster

The improved 256 GB of internal memory and support for microSD Express cards belong to the most impressive changes in the console. Of course, having a lot of greater memory compared to 32 GB (or 64 GB on the OLED switch) is of course fantastic.

But you can also expect your games to have a significantly shortened start and charging time. In my tests I found that games with showing charging time on the original switch, like Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition AND FortniteIN Now run and load into areas much faster.

Both of these games have huge, unique maps, so generally less downtime is something that I appreciate Switch 2 very much. It is also something grateful when it comes to some of the best combat games on Switch 2. Super Smash Bros. UltimateIN For example, he falls to match the character selection screen in just a few seconds.

Meanwhile, Street fighter 6‘S The online charging time fits those in its PS5 and Xbox versions.

Large Nintendo Eshop improvements

Let’s not pretend that browsing ESHOP on Switch was not an unhappy experience. If you have not traveled layers on the layers of the slope generated by AI in the offers of the offers, you were dealing with some of the worst delays of the insert to ever happen to the digital store of stores. One of these problems solved in Switch 2 Nintendo.

Yes, you will still not avoid nonsense that was so evident in the original Eshop, but Nintendo fortunately improved its usability, so the difference is like night and day. The challenging seconds of the input delay while browsing simply disappeared, which ensures much more pleasant shopping on Switch 2.

The store is also organized much cleaner than before, and you probably will not encounter a messy mess if you avoid deeply delving into the above -mentioned section.

However, there are still some things that I would like to see repaired. The Gold Points award system – which allows you to collect a discount loan when purchasing the software – disappeared completely and there was no exchange system yet.

Even worse, there is no capricious store motif and Wii store channel, and even 3DS ESHOP. Take it, please, nintendo.

Third -party ports are surprisingly good

Although definitely shame, most of the Switch 2 composition were ports of older titles, said that the ports actually turned out to be mostly impressive. Sure, many of these ports are still not to all equal with their counterparts PS5 or Xbox, but they are much less vulnerable than on the original switch.

For example, I played a lot Street fighter 6 On switch 2. The image quality is slightly less tidy than other versions, and the world -player trip mode has some performance compromises (such as blocking up to 30 frames per second during fights, which is a shame), but it is an excellent port that quickly loads and blocks 60 frames per second in offline and online.

My colleague Dash was impressed Hitman: World of Assassination – Signature Edition In its review, saying that this is an extremely solid port, beyond the time of agitated performance in the man -on mode and a number of errors, which, hopefully, can be picked up in the near future.
