Published:

The upcoming title of Giant Squid, SwordIt is a well -made relationship of all titles that the studio and the director of the game Matt Nava worked on. Water miracle ABZÓ, a sense of adventure without Pathless and a stunning desert world of travel. Sword of the sea intertwines these influence so skillfully that it seems that this atmospheric adventure of surfing was a target all the time.

I had the opportunity to go to Sword of the Sea and talk to a giant squid about the novel game, the upcoming day on PlayStation Plus Game on August 19.

Surfing on the sands and the sea

The game begins when the player wakes up as Wraith, a ship waiting for filling, which has the task of restoring the oceans to the world. It seems that the last one remained alive to perform the task, you get a mystical surfing board and hit the dunes.

The initial area is a extensive playground where you can get used to the board, make tricks and learn to interact with the world. When you enlarge the desert, you will come across various nodes known as ocean seeds that allow you to tidy the soil and restore parts of the ocean and marine life.

In addition to the pleasure of aesthetics, water and sea life directly affect the gameplay. Wraith is much faster on water, which leads to higher speed for larger jumps and more tricks. Some sea life create novel paths, such as floating jellyfish, which create great jumping pads and long bands of climbing seaweed. Watching landscape teraforms was a climax, as did the search for all the secrets of the Earth.

“The sea’s sword really concerns the spiritual magic of surfing,” explains Nava. “This is inspired by my own experience on snowboarding, skateboard and surfing all my life. When you think about these extreme sports, the first thing that probably comes to mind high speed and danger. But there is more than just a surge of adrenaline. When you surf on the waves in the ocean, you are literally on the border of our world and the world, outside our understanding.

Golden triangles known as Tetra populate the world, acting as a currency that you can list mysterious suppliers to get to know more tricks, acquire skills and open novel paths. Do you want to see it all? You will have to leave the main path to see all this. Different suppliers, triangles and arena of artificial attack are hidden all over the world.

Show off your tricks and feel the area

Stopping stylish sea sword movements is basic. When surfing, after the jump you can press X to make various double jumping tricks. After obtaining advanced tricks from the supplier, you hold L1 and press the triangle, square, wheel or x to make special grips, reversal and spins. They score more points, and combining tricks and reversing in various ways create novel tricks. Although time is a bit more tough, you can give yourself a very needed summary of the jump and get a high point combinations when it is made just in time.

Sword of the sea constantly keeps the points you draw and how advanced. Hidden attack detention allow you to employ these skills well. What does a high score of the trick to? We will have to wait another secret to discover.

Although the game takes place in the desert, in addition to the sea and sand there are many different items. I came across ruins, ceramic tiles roofs and helpful water life. The Giant Squid team fully uses the DualSense controller haptics so that each surface feels and sounds clear. When I surfed along the roofs, I heard melodic tons of tiles underneath and tingling in my fingers. Sand offers a harsh feeling, and you feel and hear how you accelerate makeshift highways that form parts of the ocean.

“Haptic feedback of the DualSense controller reacts to each surface differently so that you can feel it when you go from one to another,” says Nava. “In combination with special sound effects that play from the controller, it gives a very realistic sense of touching surfaces that you see in the game. We are very excited with an additional layer of detail that Haptics adds to the experience of surfing the sea sword.”

You can discover in a given direction, and tough to access places usually reward you with something right on time and skills to get them. However, when you discover, you will discover wall paintings and other environmental elements that always keep history. The story of loss and destruction and an attempt to learn how you adapt to it is an intriguing plot to follow. Especially since at the end of my session it was clear that the mysterious figure followed me. It seemed to be another Wraith, but whoever did not vibrate good intentions.

It is effortless to compare the sea sword with its predecessors, but the game really seems to be the evolution of everything that Giant Squid worked on. A game of monuments, sounds and I feel that it connected me with the ground, and I can’t wait to jump on the board again and see what really is there.

“Our games have a really recognizable and unique style of art and tell atmospheric stories with bold color and music,” says Nava. “We start with feelings, experiences and messages that we want the player to feel. Really, all our games concern movement and how it can combine with nature and the world in different ways. Sword of the sea is based on ideas in all our previous games to create something that is both a very gigantic squid and an exciting new adventure.”
