How to play
Connections is one of the most popular (and demanding) daily puzzle games published by The New York Times. The purpose of the connections is to group 16 words of the day for four groups, in which each group of four words has a common topic.
For example, the words “Hook”, “Nana”, “Peter” and “Wendy” are the characters of Peter Pan. Or to take another example, “Action”, “Ballpark”, “Go” and “Stick” are all words that often appear just before the word “drawing”.
Your task is to find out what these topics combine different words together – but be careful, because for a lot of time there are disingenuous combinations with red herring placed only to lose you! To win the game, you need to find all four connections without making 4 mistakes. During the fourth error, the game ended and the answer is revealed automatically.
Each of the four groups in the puzzle every day is also attributed to a different color, which represents how effortless or hard to find a connection. These colors are: yellow (easiest), green (effortless), blue (medium) and purple (the most hard).

What is today’s response to calls?
Here is the answer to today’s connection puzzle on Tuesday, May 27:
- Yellow: Round flat things (coaster, frisbee, pancake, record)
- Green: Airport functions (carousel, food court, gate, lounge)
- Blue: Guitar techniques (Bend, Pick, Slide, Strum)
- Purple: What characters have been transformed into “Beauty and the Beast” (beast, candelabra, clock, cup)
This was not the best start to my everyday call puzzle; I thought I had it when I matched “Frisbee”, “Record”, “Pancake” and “Clock”, but not. As it turns out, the clock is not considered flat and rounded to the yellow motif, but there is a mountain queue. I have to admit that the degree of flatness would depend on the type of clock, while the correct yellow words are Always flat.
I fixed my mistake as soon as I realized that “Coaster” was not about amusement parks today, and then I adapted the “gate” and “salon”. After removing the “queue” from the equation, it finally occurred to me that the “carousel” did not indicate a carousel, but rather a luggage belt. “Food Court” seemed to be a logical member of the fourth group – the green motif solved!
Because I know infinitely more about Beauty and the Beast than playing the guitar, I finished the purple theme before Blue. I finally found the operate of this clock!
