While NFT ownership lives forever in blockchain, real images often do not – they are usually stored on centralized servers. If they pass offline, the images disappear.
This is not the first case. Platforms such as Rally were closed in 2023, leaving NFT owners closed with their content. But the disappearance of Klonex was one of the highest guards.
Clonex, introduced to the market with the Takashi Murakami artist in 2021, once sold for over USD 63,000 at the top. Today, among the long market, they trade for around USD 300.
After this fear, RTFKT moved his paintings to decentralized memory – a reminder that true digital property means more than just a blockchain token.
