Netease, the Marvel Rivals developer, confirmed the cuts for his project team from Seattle for “organizational reasons”.
From day to day, game director Marvel Rivals Thaddeus Sasser LinkedIn announce that he and his team were released.
“It’s such a strange industry,” Sasser began. “My star, talented team simply helped to provide an incredibly successful new franchise at Marvel Rivals in Netease games …
“… and they were simply released!
“Well! Times are difficult – let’s find these amazing people new works, because we all have to eat, right ?: D”
The video game development community reacted with a combination of shock and anger to cuts, taking into account the explosive success of Rivals Marvel. Free-to-play hero Shooter has seen over 20 million downloads since the premiere in December and huge peak number of players on Steam.
According to LinkedIn Sasser’s profile, his team focused on working in the field of game and design on the level for Marvel Rivals, “offering tips, strategy and design direction in the last few years”.
Netease issued Ign a statement confirming the exemptions, but did not specify how many people were cut out.
“We have recently made a difficult decision to adapt the structure of the Marvel Rivals programmers team for organizational reasons and optimize game development efficiency,” said Netease.
“This reduced the design team based in Seattle, which is part of a larger global design function to support Marvel’s rivals. We appreciate the hard work and dedication of the affected people and we will treat them confidentially and with respect as our individual contributions. “
But Netease willingly emphasized that the exemptions would not affect continuous support for Marvel’s rivals, whose main team of programmers is based in China.
“We want to reassure our group of fans that the basic team of programmers for Marvel Rivals, which is still led by the main manufacturer of Weicong Wu and the creative director of the Guangyun Chen games in Guangzhou in China, remains fully involved in ensuring unique experience,” Ntesease continued.
“We invest more, no less, in the evolution and development of this game. We are excited about providing new characters of superheroes, maps, functions and content to ensure the involvement of live services for our player database around the world. “
This is the latest round of dismissals in Netease, which withdrew from many foreign investments and closed studies in the USA and Japan, including Visions of Mana Developer Ouka Studios. In November, Worlds Untold, led by Mass Effect Mac Walters graduates, announced the detention of surgery after the division with the publisher Netase. And in January he cut the jar of Sparks, founded by veteran Halo and Destiny 2 Jerry Hook in 2022.
