As the stories of The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep is the one you heard before. Which is really the best, because the compact story on which it is based Witch books“More pointless and would not work very well if it was taken to adapt to the 90 -minute animated ROMP. In this version there are insidious people, the society of the “monster”, twists and turns, betrayal, redemption and Geralt do many patients with swords. You know, heroes.
I need to know
What is this?: 90 -minute animated witch spinoff based on a short story about a small officer.
Premiere: February 11, 2025
See that: Netflix
Manufactured by: Netflix, Studio Me
Directed by: Kang Hei Chul
Sirens of the Deep opens with Geralt (Doug Cockle) and Jaskier (Joey Batey) wandering through the two -story territory and attached to cash, not thanks to the well -documented reluctance of Geralt to kill creatures that really remember about their own business. That is why they agree to each work offered, which led to a musical performance for Dandelion and another opportunity to ethically refrain from hunting the hunting monster.
The kingdom of Bremervoord has a problem: the prince (man) is uncomfortably in love with the princess (Syrena), which will cause some problems with dynastic planning, if it allows it to continue. Although the kingdom of Merpeople and Bremervoord has been living in a busy peace for years, everything is threatened because the human pearl diving industry goes on to the territory of the Syrena, and human ships are attacked, while merpeops claim that they are not perpetrators.
Because every story of cooking tension between people and the neighboring society will not go away, Geralt ends in the center, trying to prevent war, because both kingdoms find further reasons not to trust. He is helped by a friend of a childhood glaucoma and a friend from Bard Essi Daven (Christina Wren), when they translate the overtures of love between human and siren monarchs and try to stop their people from killing, while deciding who mixed this pot behind the scenes.
In the context of the growing Netflix adaptation universe, there is a good choice of history to pull out the source material for independent adventure and the right amount of artistic license with this material. It is great to hear Douga Cockle, Voice of Geralt in CD Projekt Red games, drawn into one of the Netflix adaptations.
The choice in history allows several nice designs of the mermaid character, all skinny torso full of gills with accents flowing from seaweed and fins that look great in animation, but it did not try to attempt to try in the live version. It contains many colorful submarine sequences, ships battles and a whole range of massive monsters living in the ocean.
Meanwhile, focusing history from the original (more on this subject below) means that director Kang Hei Chul and MIR studio can bend in many flashy fighting scenes. There are all acrobatics of Geralt and acrobatics in the air with the choreography of the sword that you will get only animation and a few indulgent shots of Geralt POV during major fights. If you are going to Animal Geralt, of course you should take this opportunity to make him a superhero that performs gravitational acrobatics without spoiling the perfect Pantene hair.
One flaw in general production is that a few short sections of music numbers seem a bit flat thanks to the strange mixing choices that leave vocals and accompaniment without a large volume. I collect it, essentially illegal so as not to give Joey Batey a part of the singing after a viral throwing a coin into your witch from the first season live, but the sirens of the deep really did not throw anything to work.
Syrens of the Deep also briefly pays the quarrels of the relationship between Geralt and Yennefer, although the re -image of relations, among others, characters makes Geralt feel like a residual tip in this independent history. At this rate, we could probably do without the very short nightmares of Geralt, explaining his fall with a wizard lover who does not appear in history and quite easily accepted his side adventure DalLiancens with ESSI – this is not the first to him or for him or the first for him The first for him or for Jen.
Considering the source
Like the short story of Andrzej Sapkowski, some victim, Sirens of the Deep is in a sense a riff in the history of Hans Christian Andersen a small siren. Where Sapkowski’s work is often a kind of smile towards fairy tales, Netflix adaptation makes these references with a more promising tone.
In general, I recognized the adaptation of Netflix to Miss the Mark in a real curious sense of humor in favor of pushing the glaucoma as a comic relief with a implied work of laughter. In this case, after reading a small victim again, the glaucoma has almost the same It’s Dum Tshh-level lines just in the text.
Syrena depths re -imagining and transforming the character, although mainly because of telling a more coherent story. Those who read Sword of Destiny will notice that the adaptation presents the prince and princess, not a stupid prince and proud Syrena along with the whole side of the history of the Kingdom of Merpeople, about which there is only a small victim. With his own motivations, he turns the lateral form to the embittered bastard of his son’s throne. He also imagines the story of Dandelion as a young boy from Bremervoord so that Essi could be with him at the age as interest in love for Geralt, and not another barely 18 girls with whom the witcher fell to bed.
These changes in Geralt from ESSI can actually be the largest, because the original story spends relatively little time hunting monsters and much more on Geralt, who bends the bag with this young bard presents. Ultimately, a small victim is a tragedy with an acidic ending, in which Geralt is a witness to one unjust -sentenced love story and is a reluctant party for another. His emotional smelling of the navel causes him to recreate his relationship with Yennefer, because the stories after him will immediately return to sacrifice, which they both have on Ciri and destiny that binds them three.
Name me an unbeliever, but a more literal interpretation of a small victim would simply not be a matter of a film with a full function that is worth calling the MIR studio. The version we get here is a complete thought in itself, even if the “hero is forcibly negotiating peace between neighboring societies”, it is that we can all recite Beat-by-Beat.
This is a story that is omitted by design – Geralt and Jaskier go to a city, which we will never see again to solve the conflict without affecting the war of the northern kingdoms with the help of characters that will never return to the story. But for the same reason he is independent and satisfying like history and a well -choreted 2D animation for Geralt in all your glory.
