Despite how scary the world may seem, sometimes it’s nice to find a little brilliant spot. Thanks to adventurers playing both Black Desert and Black Desert Mobile, the folks at Pearl Abyss helped raise a donation worth €67,000 ($69,800).
This is also not an unprecedented event, as it is the sixth year of cooperation between Pearl Abyss and Médecins Sans Frontieres (the official name of Doctors Without Borders). You remember that during special in-game events, you took part in designated tasks and purchased donated items with in-game currency, which translated into a real-world donation.
The best of all? Donations made to Doctors Without Borders will go towards providing urgent medical assistance in Nigeria to patients from Noma, helping to establish cholera treatment centers and providing medicinal food to aid fight malnutrition. All this while MSF workers provide health care in conflict zones.
Through the desert
Pearl Abyss has been hosting these donation events since 2019, and it is clear that whatever one may say about them, they have contributed a significant amount thanks to the efforts of players. It’s a powerful reminder that the collaborative effort of multiplayer that helps players come together to achieve goals can also turn into good.
It’s certainly not unusual for companies to make these donations thanks to player contributions, and while there is obviously a promotional element to it, I think that even if it’s delivered in a clever way, you can’t deny the good results.
