My most anticipated indie game of 2025 quietly updated the demo while I was eating lunch

Or maybe a few months ago. I don’t know and I don’t have time to check because I’m playing the The King Is Watching demo on Steam. I wrote about this last year, but it was an older demo. Everything was different back then, but the core of this minimalist city-building strategy remains: you must actively train your royal eyes on your bumbling underlings if you want them to get any work done. Don’t look at the wheat fields, there is no food. Don’t guard the barracks, no knights. You will also need these knights to defend against attacks. See how it all comes together?! Are you?! Please do some research. Here’s a trailer that may facilitate:

In fact, I’m starting to suspect that I may have imagined the version I recently played, as the trailer I used in the previous article shows the newer version. How far down does this thing go? Wait, never mind. It’s still there on Itchu. Typical deep state antics. Firstly, this version is much more visually rich than the previous one. You can now see your king, who is wearing a magnificent golden mask. This is just the king of the demo though – it looks like there are more monarchs with bigger problems in the full version. Also fresh are prophecies, which allow you to choose the next three waves to attack you, and tougher enemies will provide better rewards. I also think there are a lot more improvements now. This is useless. I’m useless. It was a long time ago. Sorry. Don’t look at me, look at it helpful and attractive Steam Description: :

Breeder! There are countless reports of peasants and workers sleeping on the job, not producing the bare minimum needed to run the kingdom! Only your watchful eye can facilitate them understand how essential it is to work for the good of the Kingdom! Your royal skill in balancing resource production, soldier training and magic guild is what will save our kingdom! Distract your attention to other royal matters and production will stop.

See, it was enlightening. I promise I’ll check out what’s fresh and good before I finish reviewing this thing. Currently “coming soon”. I’m looking.
