Sons Of The Forest is about being chased by cannibals who can’t swim, so the latest update should be useful to players. The main novelty is the addition of rafts that players can build and then sail on them like Tom Hanks from the 2000s.
The rafts are available in three versions, from petite, slightly less petite, to a full houseboat with walls and ceilings. All three can be tied to the shore using a recent mooring structure and otherwise paddled around the island’s lakes and waterways.
There are also some other intriguing recent features. Players can now draw plans for the defensive walls around their base and let Kelvin do the demanding work of building them. Kelvin also now has a faster swimming animation, and both he and Virginia can get out of the water at its edge, which seems useful when they inevitably fall off the raft.
If you make a mistake and ever return to land, there have apparently been improvements to your crossbow, compound bow, craft bow, shotgun, and slingshot, all of which you’ll see as you try to survive against the cannibals.
Full Patch notes are available on Steam. We really liked the game when version 1.0 was released early last year, as Matt Cox (RPS in peace) explained in his Sons Of The Forest review.
