Activision has announced a recent cosmetic pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Los Angeles Fire Department to lend a hand fight wildfires. The LA Fire Relief Pack includes a player skin and matching weapon camo, costs 2,400 CoD Points ($20), and is available now in the in-game store.
“In light of the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles that have impacted our friends, colleagues and residents of Southern California, we are adding the LA Fire Relief Pack to Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone.” Activision wrote in a tweet on the official Call of Duty account. “100% of Activision’s proceeds from the purchase of the LA Fire Relief package will be donated to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Direct Relief.”
IN next post on Activision’s main Twitter account, the company announced that it would also donate $1 million directly to the LAFD Foundation and Direct Relief. “As a company with deep roots in the Los Angeles area, our hearts go out to our friends, colleagues and residents impacted by the devastating wildfires,” Activision wrote in a second post.
It’s a great move, and I also appreciate that the skin itself looks truly badass, even without the charity context: you’ve got a hooded, tactical, almost Squid Games-looking operator wearing a mask with a texture resembling It’s fingerprint swirl. The whole thing was combined with a swirling, metallic camouflage pattern in turquoise and fuchsia on a graphite-gray base. Maybe a little too smoke shop, streetwear, Gen-Z for my taste, but still one of the cooler skins I’ve seen and probably well suited to the tastes of the average CoD fan.
The fires caused other negative effects in the gaming world, causing the closure of many studio offices in Los Angeles and the interruption of filming of the second season of Fallout Show. Activision isn’t the only studio to give back to the city either: Riot donated one of its spare generators to a damaged fire station, as well as meals from the employee canteen.
