Australian Open, the first great professional tennis the 2025 tournament takes place in Melbourne. However, depending on where you live and whether you have access to cable TV, it is very possible that you will not be able to watch the games easily and freely. Don’t worry, the Australian Open has a solution and it looks very similar to a video game.
The latest trend in sports broadcasting involves using motion capture technology and artificial intelligence to digitally recreate live gameplay in real time. we saw Homer Simpson and the rest of his family recently played an NFL game on Disney+. Similarly, The NHL played a game featuring Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes stars. In many cases, these tricks are simply a way to add intellectual property to a sporting event and perhaps attract modern or younger viewers. However, because these quirky broadcasts employ digital avatars to recreate an actual sporting event, they provide people with the ability to watch the event in real time without having to show any footage of it. And that means you don’t have to deal with annoying broadcast rights. This brings us to what is happening in Australia.
According to tennis reporter Bastien Fachanthat’s why Australian Open matches are currently streamed online as they appear Wii Sports Tennis. (Actually, no Wii Sport, just to be clear. It just looks that way.)
The Australian Open, which began on January 6, broadcasts matches on its YouTube channel using digital avatars resembling video games. These digital recreations aren’t perfect – sometimes the actual match audio is out of sync, and other times I’ve noticed virtual athletes breaking in strange ways that remind me of watching people play Kinect.
But when it works – and it most often does – it provides a strange but effective way to watch a tennis match in real time on YouTube, regardless of where you live or which network owns the broadcast rights. I’m not entirely sure why all the avatars have such gigantic heads and balls so gigantic, maybe it’s to make everything look more like it’s in a video game and so you won’t worry so much when something breaks, or maybe it’s just to to make it easier to follow.
Either way, I watched more tennis today than I have in a long time, so it has the added benefit of making some non-tennis fans like me more willing to watch certain sports.
You can find all digital Australian Open matches online here YouTube channel in the “Live” tab. Enjoy watching digital people play tennis and be sure to read the comments where random tennis fans come to watch the match and discover this bizarre video game simulation instead.
