Marvel Rivals players risk having their accounts banned by continuing to operate mods even after Season 1 launch restrictions.
Since Marvel Rivals’ wildly successful December launch, players have been using mods to create custom skins despite concerns about account bans. Popular mods include turning Iron Man into Vegeta from Dragon Ball and Mantis into a goth. There’s even a mod that turns Jeff Land Shark into Pochita from Chainsaw Man.
Last week, with the release of Fantastic Four and Season 1, Marvel Rivals added a secret mod restriction in the form of asset hash checking. At the time, developer NetEase told IGN that the game’s terms and conditions prohibit the operate of mods, as well as cheats, bots, hacks and any other unauthorized third-party software. NetEase has already warned Marvel Rivals players that using mods may cause problems, and confirmed the news in a statement to IGN: “It is not recommended to modify any game files as doing so may result in a ban.”

However, it seems some people are not discouraged. A solution has been discovered and is currently circulating widely on the Internet, and although it requires more steps than before, it is doable for most PC gamers.
Prafit mud, who have uploaded their workaround to Nexus Modsissued a warning to players: “Use at your own risk,” Prafit said in the mod’s description.
“By using this, you are actually bypassing the system that was created to prevent us from modding at the beginning of the Season 1 patch. No one knows if NetEase will ban you, but as far as we know, they have never issued indefinite bans.
Now there are fresh mods that take advantage of the addition of the Fantastic Four characters. For example, The Ercuallo mod turns Mr. Fantastic into Luffy from the One Piece manga. According to Nexus Mods statistics, this Luffy mod has already been downloaded over 5,000 times within two days of release.

The question for Marvel Rivals modders and those who still operate them is whether NetEase will actually ban players as threatened. The community has yet to discover an example of a player being banned for using mods, but a workaround may inspire further action.
Why would NetEase want to block mods? In addition to the potential loss of revenue associated with skin sales and potential intellectual property issues, mods can impact gameplay balance and even the performance of the game itself. Indeed, modder Prafit said that their fleeting solution should only be used by people with a “strong” computer.
