The answers for today’s Connections game, #582, are…

  • YELLOW: TEACH TRAINER, GUIDE, SCHOOL, TRAIN
  • GREEN: DIAGRAM BANK, POOL, RESERVATION, SHOP
  • BLUE: DRIVING INSTRUCTOR GUIDELINES BRAKE, PARK, SIGNAL, DIRECTION
  • PURPLE: ROBOT BOOK, EARTH, GLOW, INCHES

  • My rating: Easy
  • My result: 1 error

On the list of DRIVING INSTRUCTOR’S TIPS, I most often heard BRAKE during lessons. I was so bad at driving that after the second lesson, my first instructor did not agree to take me to the lesson – I hit a police car while stopping. The police found it comical, the instructor not so much.

When I finally came in for my first test, I failed it after 10 seconds, after I managed to miss the SIGNAL and then make a TURN in the wrong direction and directly into oncoming traffic.

I will add that during this period I also crashed my father’s car into a rock and then into a tree.

Fortunately, after a 10-year break, everything calmed down and I passed the second test. I even thought about becoming a driving instructor, but then I realized that I would have to teach people like I was 17 years senior.

Anyway, lovely Connections today. Certainly less stressful than a driving lesson.

What are NYT calls?

NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. The task is to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is basic, yellow is slightly more tough, blue is often quite tough, and purple is usually very tough.

The advantage is that you technically don’t have to solve the last one because you will be able to answer it by process of elimination. What’s more, you can make as many as four mistakes, which gives you some slack.

However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to throw you off balance with tricks. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that can unrecognized answers.

You can play it for free via NYT Gaming Site on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
