Microsoft has announced the first wave of its January Game Pass lineup, kicking off the recent year with a selection of recent titles for subscribers to check out. However, if you are a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber and play on Xbox, you will only receive one recent game.
This game, EA Sports UFC 5 (Cloud, Xbox Series X/S), will launch on January 14 on Xbox Series X|S. It’s similar with Road 96 (in the cloud, on consoles and on PC), but it was available before and is back. Lightyear Frontier (Xbox Series X/S), My Time at Sandrock (console), Rolling Hills – Sherwood Builders (Xbox Series X/S), and Rolling Hills (console) can now be played by Game Pass Standard subscribers. Meanwhile, Diablo is now coming to PC Game Pass. This means that those who pay the most for the subscription will get one recent game on the console.

Of course, it doesn’t seem great. It is worth mentioning that this is only the first wave of games this month, more will appear in the coming weeks. But in terms of value for money, it’s not a great choice for those who spend substantial. Especially if they are not fans of sports games! Games like My Time at Sandrock may be fun, but it’s entirely possible that Ultimate subscribers have played them before.
We would like to remind you that Microsoft some time ago increased the price of Game Pass Ultimate from $16.99 to $19.99. It didn’t work out particularly well, as you can imagine, but Game Pass nonetheless has has proven to be good value for money in months where absolute scorchers appear in the monthly gaming lineup. This month, judging by the first wave, doesn’t look like it.
