The Xbox app will be available on LG Smart TVs this year

Xbox is kicking off the up-to-date year by taking another step toward its promise to make everything Xbox: announcing that it will be adding the Xbox app to LG TVs later this year.

In today’s Xbox Wire post, Xbox announced that it is working with LG Electronics to bring the Xbox app to LG Smart TVs in 2025. This means that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play games on supported LG TVs without having to apply a console, using cloud gaming technology. And yes, this also applies to Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Xbox has already rolled out the feature to Samsung Smart TVs in 2022, and added Amazon Fire TV devices to the mix last year. As it expands to LG TVs, Xbox is further expanding its presence on TV with an ongoing advertising campaign focused on showcasing Xbox gaming on any device. Using the tagline “This is Xbox,” this campaign positions TVs, laptops, phones, consoles and more as Xbox consoles through the combined capabilities of the Xbox and Game Pass apps. LG makes some of the best gaming TVs, including our favorite, the LG G4.

Despite numerous moves in recent years to expand from consoles to other devices, Xbox executives have repeatedly said they are committed to consoles as well. Just last year, it announced a refresh of the mid-gen Xbox Series X and S consoles, including the all-digital Series X, and confirmed that it would be “full speed” on the next-gen console.

Meanwhile, rumors of a dedicated Xbox handheld continue to surface every few months, although Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently suggested that release is still a few years away.
