The next Mass Effect may restore the original morality system

Mass effect is a sci-fi epic in video game form, currently spanning four games, with a fifth coming at some point in the future. Based on several cryptic social media posts, fans believe the developer may bring back the original morality system that marked the first game.

Michael Gamble, director of the series, has alluded to the original Renegade/Paragon system in recent posts on X, leading many players to speculate that he intends to bring the system back in the next game in the series. Mass Effect: Andromeda was met with a lot of criticism, with many players feeling that it did not fit the series as a whole. Players have expressed their desire to recapture the magic of that first experience in another title.

If you didn’t play the original game, the morality system allowed players to work towards being an Exemplar – a good player – or a Renegade, a bad player. Each choice had immediate consequences, and many teammates would react badly to the Renegade’s choices. However, the further you follow either path, the more dialogue options open up (including the option to kick the reporter out the window at one point).

To be clear, this is all speculation and wishful thinking for now. Few details were given about the next one Mass effect the game beyond low trailers and promotional clips, and its release may not even take place until 2029 or later. No, that’s not a typo – we’re looking at Bethesda-level development times. However, as Gamble points out in his message, the team working on the next game is the same team that worked to make the original trilogy such a huge hit.

Yes, it’s been a long time. However, many of us who were leaders in the Shepard trilogy are leading this game. The mass effect is in our blood.

We can’t say for sure when the next one will be Mass effect the game will hit the shelves (and by 2029 it may only be digital shelves), but after success Dragon Age: Veil Guard, Bioware is in a great position to release another stunning RPG.
