Who doesn’t like the Battle Pass? I hope so if you plan on participating in the Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Squid Game crossover event, which starts today, January 3, and runs until January 24.
You see, it technically comes with not one but two battle passes, regular and premium, all loaded with gadgets that let the person you’re practically shooting in the face know that you like red airy, green airy TV shows. Is this too much of a battle pass even for the die-hard CoD audience who are already well accustomed to battle passes at this point? It seems it depends on who you ask.

First of all, deets. as blog entry announcing the arrival of the event introduces up-to-date multiplayer modes Red Light, Green Light and its inevitable zombie sibling, Dead Light, Green Light.
When fighting in matches, you’ll utilize the Squid Game Event Pass, which includes two different paths. Here is the regular free version and the premium version which costs 1,100 COD points which is equivalent to $9.99/£8.39. The premium version includes items such as the “Front Man” operator as the ultimate reward for mastery, while the free version includes several operator skins for Squid Game players and other goodies.

“While every player can progress and unlock items in the Free Rewards Track, the second Premium Rewards Track within the Event Pass offers even more,” Activision writes, “Purchase the Premium Track to gain access to the ability to unlock additional themed rewards, including an instant reward “High Authority” XM4 Assault Rifle blueprint plus plans for the Knife, GS45 Pistol, and Saug SMG, plus Stun Grenade Gear Skin, Finishing Move, “Throw Throw” emote, “Who Left” Talking Weapon screen, and more!”
Are players content with the idea of something like this happening for the first time? Well, much further Twitter AND Reddit it’s not like one user of the latter joked, “We now have battle passes in between battle passes.”
On the other hand, some players seem content to write off this premium track, simply considering it something that people shouldn’t bother buying if they’re not a fan of it, rather than something to get too annoyed with . As always, the debate has been brought up as to whether microtransactions are okay if the items stored behind them are just cosmetics.
“The content included in the premium pass is as much or more than some of the 2,400+ CoD point packs currently available in the store,” wrote user SuperRSM, “Paying 1,100 and having to play the game seems more reasonable to me than a lot of what’s offered in store, they could have added it in a bundle for $20-$30 and no one would have batted an eyelid. Just treat it like a store package and decide if it’s worth it for you.
It’s worth noting that the Squid Game event will include several store packs in addition to these passes – the Pink Guard Tracer Pack, the VIPs Tracer Pack, and the Young-hee Tracer Pack. It seems that the prices of these devices have not been revealed yet.
