Tom Holland already knows exactly when he will retire from acting

You may not have noticed it, but there’s no Tom Holland on your movie screen in 2024, and that could become a reality in the not-too-distant future. He has been acting since he auditioned Billy Elliot: The Musical in London at the age of 11, Holland has spent the enormous majority of his life as a web crawler, a schizophrenic, an animated weapon creator, and a world of characters in between. But he has life goals that replace fighting CGI aliens. “When I have children, you won’t see me in movies anymore,” he says. “Golf and dad. And I’ll just disappear off the face of the earth.”

He doesn’t give any timeline for when he’ll become a father (who really?), and he’s already committed to appearing on the show Christopher Nolanupcoming movie Odyssey, next Spider-Man flipand a true-life racing drama American speed, all set to be released in 2026. This could make 2026 an equally good year for a swan song.

Time also began to show its effects on the actor who Spider-Man director Jon Watts says he once did a full backflip from place to place while auditioning for a superhero role, and it changed his life. Holland says he recently successfully performed the same backflip, but this time he pulled all his abdominal muscles and for weeks “he couldn’t laugh because my stomach hurt so bad.” This type of pain is enough to make someone reconsider their career.
