Skyrim has been ported to Unreal Engine 5 and it’s stunningly attractive

Remember all those years ago when we first saw it Skyrim? I swear, it was wonderful. The breathtaking views of the colder parts of Tamriel were something to behold. Fast forward some 13 years later and vanilla TES5 it has certainly aged to some extent. But there’s still life in this venerable girl.

As he noticed DSO gamessomeone made a version Skyrim with the graphic kiss of life, so to speak. Specifically, someone ported the game to Unreal Engine 5 and you can now play a demo of this fan project.

The video above shows how much the overall look of Bethesda’s aging RPG has been improved. The person responsible for the port – a man named Greg Coulthard – claims to have written his own C++ plugin that allows reading ESM files Skyrimwhich also automates “landscape generation and feature placement” in UE5. You can download the demo from Discord Here. Just look for the link pinned at the top of the feed “bethesda_unreal”.

Just a attractive walk around the world

There are a few things worth noting: First, Coulthard claims that their version uses core resources Skyrimso it will still look very similar to the 2011 version, just with much better graphics. Secondly, DSO notes that the demo only contains the world, so there is no gameplay or RPG mechanics involved.

Basically if you just want to take a leisurely stroll Skyrimand you wonder what would happen if Bethesda built a game on Unreal Engine, this is your chance. When we will have the full version of the project, it is hard to say at this stage. For all we know, it may never appear.

Basically, approach this with the understanding that this is more of a proof of concept than an example of future events. But hey, at least it’s a different way Skyrim to maintain some degree of freshness while we wait longer and longer for updates Elder Scrolls 6.
